While I don't know any "Acura tech" secrets about it, I know it's basically a magnetic inductance sensor setup, reading the "teeth" on the gear pictured above. Works alot like an ABS sensor.

Don't get the wrong idea...I'm not here to argue or match wits, I'm hear to learn mang! If you get a minute, I'd love to hear more about it and why/how it "has no TDC sensor."
