sure, the fan can just go out like that. any electrical component can die for a lot of reasons...

so no air is being blown at all? not even when the A/C button is turned off, and it's just the regular fan?

does the A/C condenser fire up? if you have the engine running and hood up, have someone else turn the A/C on while you're listening the engine. you'll notice it firing up. it makes a distinct sound, and it draws a TON of power from the engine.

i have no idea where the fan is located, but i think it could be a bitch to fix. try taking it to a radiator/air conditioner shop to see if they can diagnose the problem.
