well i have a 96 honda civic ex and i just swapped out my tranny for another one yesterday...
it wasn't to hard but its not something you can do in like 2 hours unless you have a tranny lift and a car lift... but if you have two jack stands and two floor jacks you should be fine....
we jacked up the front end and put it on jack stands.. drain the tranny fluid and then pulled off the wheels and got the axles out and then started undoing everyrhing on the tranny... first you have to remove the intake then unbolt all of the crap on the tranny and in the way of it...
then put a floor jack under the exhaust or somewhere under the engine to support it and unbolt the tranny and pull it off but make sure all the bolts are out cause it will not move even if one bolt is in there we learned that the hard way... hehe
but then drop it down... well set it down.. its not to heavy at all... its like maybe 75 to 85 lbs and then pull it out from the car and check you clutch and replace if needed and do the opsite of removeal and use the other floor jack to help you lift it up in place
it took us about 10 hours to do this and this is including the time to go and get a couple of tools like a axle nut socket and some tranny fluid and all that good stuff plus then after we removed the tranny we went out and had lunch came back and started to installed the new clutch but then had to run back out to the store cause we thought we needed some star style sockets for the clutch bolts but we didn't then we installed the new transmission test drove it and then ate dinner all in the time frame of that ten hours so it wasn't to bad
