It's possible. The trick to launching a high powered Ford is to ease on the throttle and get it rolling...then unleash hell.
So the Cobra probably wasn't jumping on it until 30 or even 40 miles per hour. Then just as Oldschool said, the Cobra vanished into the horizon.
