I don't know why this poster insists on claiming that Honda has a 100k mile powertrain warranty. The warranty is 36 months/36k miles, whichever comes first. This 98 V6 is out of warranty.

Your best bet is to try to get the dealer to certify the car, even for an extra fee. This will give you protection until 100k miles.

6th gen automatic transmissions were very problematic until 2002 model year. That is why Honda issued an extended warranty for the 2000 and 2001 Accord automatics. I have seen some claim that the failure rate prior to 100k miles is as high as 50%.

I have 2 2000 Accords - 1 got a new tranny for free at 64k miles, the other is going strong on the original at 115k miles.

The V6 engine is excellent, but I would be very careful about the transmission, and if you are buying from a dealer, I would insist on some kind of warranty for protection.
