I'd say that some people who drive manual have a tendency of not put the clutch in or out fully when switching gears, braking, etc. and it strips gears and screws up the clutch. as well as those who like to rock their cars at stop lights.
However I drive a 92 accord automatic, I have had it since 92 as well and 3 years ago my trans computer shorted and there were times when I couldn't even get the shifter to move. Then when I did drive it, it would be in D4 and then rev like it was in neutral. I ended up eating my gears and had to buy a rebuilt transmission as well as a rebuilt computer.
