Could be the starter too if the car won't start. Will it not start when it's hot or first thing. The starter has a start and a run position. Sometimes the starter will burn up and get stuck in the run position which will not allow the car to start easily.
However, I'm also of the opinion that if regular maintenance has not been done or no one is sure when it was done last then I would do all that sort of stuff now and then that way you know. Dist. cap, wires, spark plugs, rotor button, coil, and even a good ol' oil change too.... ;-)
