Default newb 93 teg rim question

Just bought a 93 LS, have done nothing to it so far. After cold air and exaust, I was thinking about some rims.

I know you racing guys are anti-big-alloy, but I want something that will look better than the stock plastic 15'' hubcaps. Which look like something taken from the side of the road.

So my question is this: What dimensions will my car take? I'd like 17 inches, but how wide must they be? And what's p185/80r15 mean in english? Also, new springs and a few inches lower are in the plan as well, how should that affect the decision?

And finally, as I'd like to keep my car nimble while looking good, is there an alternative to alloys, that looks decent at a lower weight? I'd buy black/gunmetal rims anyways, none of this shiny business.

I appreciate any info/links on wheels at all, as I'm as clueless as they come.
