The question here is torque. The smaller displacement B16A will have to be rev'd higher to get into the useable powerband. As, umm, Dave mentioned, the long gearing of your LS tranny will make the problem worse (you will probably get a little better gas milage though). Basically, if you do a B16A swap, your car might even feel slower to you then it does now. It will show the extra power of the B16A in a drag race where you spent all your time at 5000 rpm and above, but roaming around town, where you most likely won't hit 5000 at all, the small engine will be working harder. In your situation, I would probably suggest skipping a swap all together. For the price of a B18C1 alone, I would probably go with a first gen B16A tranny (you need a cable unit) coupled to your B18A to get the more aggressive ratio, a good clutch and flywheel and a good quality set of cams and springs and some time on a dyno with an S-AFC to tune. You won't have the same 8000 rpm top end VTEC offers, but your car will run hard, be reliable (if built right) and unique. Or just say "screw it" and go buy a turbo.
