theres only a small spot where anything can get out, but my pleco was always on the bottom of the tank.

all my fish are pretty damn small. the pleco was the biggest thing in there. i dont know a whole lot about fish but it seems that nothing in my tank could really take it down.. and completely destroy it without a trace.

are plecos known to burrow into the gravel? my gravel isnt very deep but thats the only place i havent really looked.
