I'm getting quite confused here.

Short Ram Intakes (SRI) swap the stock airbox with a cone filter. These are great investments because a cone filter is washable thoughout the life time of the car. The gains are minimal towards the middle/upper powerband. The cone filter still resides under the hood.

Cold Air Intakes (CAI) is just like an SRI, but relocates the airfilter outside of the engine bay to grab the coolest air possible. (Cold air = HP)Typically, a CAI hides the airfilter behind the frontbumper, infront of the wheel well.

Since a CAI is closer to the ground, you run a risk of sucking water into your engine block, this is known as "hydrolocking". If you live in an area where winters are brutal or springs are rain prone, you should stick with an SRI or go with the CAI breather valve.

and never go "cheap". You might save $20, but you're playing with a $15,000 car. Save up and get quality parts.
