He didn't do it right the first time, so he has no right to be pissed off. There should be some sort of warranty and if he can't stand behind his work when something goes wrong, you should find a new mechanic.

While he is at it, you should have him put an OEM throwout bearing in there that he has triple checked for proper lubrication.
