Stupid Maryland MVA (their version of the DMV) making me worry over nothin
I bought my car back home last summer and registered it there. My registration is still good thru next year. I planned to keep the Maryland registration because I thought I was heading strtaight back there after school. I'm still keeping it for now because it's still good and I might as well not pay for a Wisconsin registration if I don't have to.
But, keeping your registration is contingent on getting the car emissions inspected. I got one extension on the MVA website. Then I tried to extend it again and it wouldn't let me, so I called them and got another extension that way. But then they would only extend it so much. They said they could extend it until the car would need to be inspected next on its regular schedule, which would be november 2006. All I needed to do was fill out a form and get a local law enforcement officer here in Wisconsin to sign it, then fax it to the MVA. So I did that and thought everything was cool.
But then a few weeks after I did that, my parents called me and said they got some mailing saying that my car had missed its inspection date and if it wasn't inspected by some point in the future my registration would be revoked. So today I called up the MVA to figure out what was going on. After sitting on hold for about 20 minutes they finally told me that my inspection date had in fact been extended to when they said it would be. They said the suspension of registration notice probably just got crossed in the mail. Ugh.
