As far as which speakers to buy.....
Correctly mounting some low end speakers will give you much better sound than incorrectly mounting high end ones.
What I mean is, a very common mistake, especially with door speakers, is not creating a solid baffle. In other words, leaving gaps between the speaker and the hole. If you do that, bass and midrange frequencies will actully cancel out.
Get the reference series and a Dynamat door kit. Line the inside of the door with it, covering any holes that arent used to mount the door. Also, lay a wide strip on the inside of the outside door metal. Then make sure you have ZERO holes near the speaker. This will effectively create an enclosure and give any speakers much more punch.
One more thing, if you cut that piece of plastic out, make sure you still have enough room to roll down the window past the magnet. That plastic also protects the speaker from water.
