I would welcome the ability to look up the definition of the Check Engine codes ... how would one tactfully ask a mechanic for them? They were not listed on my paperwork or invoice, and since this is a questionable situation, I want to tread lightly.

I'm very new to the automotive tech side of ownership and want to learn, but want to do so as professionally as possible. As a woman, I have a vested interest in building a solid knowledge base, but I have no hands-on experience at this time and no idea how to gain that experience. Can you suggest a plan of action?
