Well considering his role in Green Mile being played very well I can see him pulling it off as well, but Ron Howard is not exactly the greatest handler in the world, though he has done some very good movies.

I just don't see this combination as being a real winner but I may very well be wrong. I would be dissapointed actually if I was right because it was a great book and deserves to be done right in movie form.
