Well, in the rest of the automotive world in cars that don't have weak chassis problems, the terms "brace" and "tie" mean the same thing. When talking about the Beaks kit and similar, I prefer the term "reinforcement" to avoid confusion.

Ex:
Strut brace = Strut tie bar.
