And NAFTA hurt them a lot more then it helped. Nafta allowed no tarifs so the farmers couldnt really turn over a profit on their produce. That lead to more cultivation of Drug crops which bring them more of a profit, and some can't even work so they come over here. But thats what america does they go and do something that will help them in the short term, then it comes back and hurts them, then they just make the situation worse. The Taliban and Afghanistan just comes to mind right now.
Also NAFTA is a Free Trade Agreement. It actually helped Mexico sunstancially agriculturally (sp). Its cheaper for US companies to grow their products in Mexico because of the cheaper labor. The Free Trade Agreement means that they get that product back into the country duty free. That means American farmers loose jobs.
