And I don't think that a air bag going off will stop the car from running, as far as I know
actually yes, deploying the airbag for a lot of the newer cars (96 and up) shuts down the entire electrical system. It's a safeguard, since a lot of crashes big enough to trigger the air bags cause potential fire hazards.

But yes, check the ignition system. Maybe you could try putting the distributor cap/rotor/wires onto the other car. If it starts, you know it's not that. Then test the ignition coil. Chances are, the problem's gonna be somewhere in those parts.
