Default My afternoon of fun, taking apart a d16

well the other day i was driving on the freeway when my car stalled while going about 85ish. started her back up and got off at my exit. stalled again at the stop sign. started her back up again and got home. now theres a rattling sound coming from the motor. turn her off and check the oil. dip stick not ven reading. wipe it off try again, nothing. i had just got an oil change less than two months ago and i know shes eats oil but 4 quarts already? poored a few quarts in her and went to work the next day. sound continued. so now im thinking i blew a rocker arm or something. today the sound got even louder. sounded like a rod was being tossed around the block not connected to the crank. she died and i had her towed to my buddy's. im hoping ill see that its a rocker arm by just poping off the valve cover.

nope everythings fine. so we do a compression test.

compression is fine, not a piston. gotta be in the block. so we drain the coolant, take off the head, and drop the oil pan.

look at the pretty shiny stuff i found in the oil pan!

metal scraps underneath the #1 piston. we disconnect the rod cap... no rod bearing... its in the oil pan!

the cap and the crank have very jagged surfaces. seems the bearing blew and then rod was grinding on the crank for a bit.

popped the piston out of the top... theyre arent suppose to do this

can you tell where it was getting hot?

so now its time for a b16. moral of the story... check our oil often!
