The backing plate really is just a peice of stamped sheet metal. You really should take your own wheels off and check them yourself. The plate may be rusted and flopping around. Just get a screwdriver and bend the plate away from the rotor, spin the wheel and see if it makes the noise. If not your done. It may bend itself back and touch the rotors again, well repeat... or pay out the a$$ for new ones.
