However, chiro's only deal with bones, not muscles. If it truely feels like you pulled a muscle or are having a spasm, a massage would be best. The chiropractor might have a therapist there. Chiropractic care would still be a good thing, even if it is a muscle and not a joint.
It sounds to me like it was a muscle. When you sat up, your neck muscles were contracted to keep your head up while you sat up. More than likely, you turned the wrong way or moved your head the wrong way while those muscles were contracted, causing that pain. I did it in the car the other day trying to take my jacket off and I couldnt turn my head to the right for hours. Obviously, yours sounds a little more severe than mine. What i would recomend, and this is only a recommendation...keep using hot and cold compresses. Hot to relax the muscles, cold to keep the inflammation down. Take it easy and stay as relaxed as you can, and it should be better by the time you go on vacation. And of course, go to the chiro.
