IMO the throttlebody will get gummed out before the cable gets pinched somehow.. It's an easy enough cleaning job, just take it off (not before making sure you have the right gaskets to put it back on) , clean the gasket material off, use carb cleaner to get all the dirt and gum out, (optionally send it away to get ported) and reinstall with new gasket

If you think either of them are sticking you can usually check to see if they are before hand using a multimeter on the TPS
