weird...I have the exact same speakers and they replaced the POS pioneer 6x9's that were in there before. there was plenty of room to spare below the magnet, and I doubt that there is any difference between your '96 and my '97 so you are safe to go with those.
I tried putting my '97 in the vehicle selector and yes, it tells me it won't fit, but I walk out to my car and see the 6x9's in there with room to spare so I guess that would be the "vehicle selector" you can trust more, right?
Go for it, I see absolutely no reason they shouldn't fit.
