I have JE rings. I ran 30w dino oil through mine when I broke it in. I changed the oil at 50 and then every 250 miles for the first 800 miles. Now I'm running 30w Mobil 1 and it's sealed up tight. The only smoke I'm getting is fuel smoke from pulled timing at 20+ PSI. It's good (and a hell of a lot cheaper) to break your motor in with non-synthetic because friction is needed for your rings to seat quickly.
It could be a valve seal that's giving you trouble. What do your plugs look like?
