A. insurance: 18 year old guy with a brand new sports car makes insurance companies both salivate and wince. You will be shelling out high risk rates even without any accidents or tickets.

B. longevity: Hondas are known to last a really long time. Replacing your '95s engine with one with lower mileage is ensuring that this car will last a long time to come.

C. parts: parts are cheap as hell for a '95. if anything does eventually go wrong, fixing it is super easy and inexpensive. Plus if you DIY you get the education to go with it.

D. debt: Why put yourself in so much debt so young? Your '95 is paid for. (I assume)

E. pride: modifying a car makes you proud of what you have done, what you have accomplished. (at least for me it does)

F: value of a dollar: what happens to the value of a new car the second you drive it off the lot? It drops by 1/4 immediately, then to 1/2 by the end of two years. I’ve never considered buying a new car, nor will I ever.

Ok, I’ve put too much thought into this. There are a few more points I’d make but explaining them is difficult.

BTW, mom you're not the bad person here, you are simply looking at this as a car, not plans and education for his future.
