Saabs don't have a history of being unreliable. The old 900 series used to have a history of running every bit as long as current day Hondas. I had a roommate in '92 that racked 340,000 miles on his before ripping the tread off his tires on a freshly paved road ( a little too freshly paved... still sticky) He just left it in the road with the keys in it. New tires cost more than the car was worth by that point.

I could be. It's sad, but I ran the Kelly BB value on my '95 this morning (2g). It's only worth $4400. I've almost got twice that in the motor and tranny. 1g turbo cars can be purchased in good working order for between $500-$2500.
You won't get good gas mileage with any AWD car, period. Way too much rotating mass in the drivetrain to pull that off. But you'll at least enjoy every penny of your gas budget.
