I would never swap in a CVT tranny. If anything breaks (and it is more likely to on a CVT vs. a normal manual) it will be expensive to fix.

CVT's are beneficial because they have infinately variable gear ratios so you are always in the optimal range of the engine. The down side is that they cannot handle much power as they will start to slip.
