to my knowledge, they haven't actually made any formal announcements about the hardware specifics in their next console (revolution), but IBM/ATI insiders have "suggested" that the core would either be the same or very similar to that of xbox2. in other words, it'll probably be a big improvement over the gc.

the design of the game cube (the fact that it's more like a cube than a VCR) has nothing to do with it's build quality :slap: besides, it is always sony that has quality control issues with all of their initial console releases. nintendo is usually top notch in terms of build quality and reliability. the gamecube is also pretty small.. how friggin small is your house, that you can't put it anywhere? :eh: personally, i think it's really cool that they did something different, because obviously no one else was going to
not that i expect you to care, but there's a little bit of heritage in the design as well. the original famicom (asia, not US) is almost exactly the same width. stack it on top of the disk drive accessory, and it's almost exactly the same height. :thumbup:
