02 Accord Coupe - trying to figure out what speakers will fit, what I may have to do to get them to fit, how to remove the door panels, etc.

When they say the stock opening is 2 inches, am I understanding correctly that this can be increased by cutting off the back of the basket? Any negative side effects from doing this? If I wanted to make a spacer instead, how is that done? Can someone give me a run-down on removing the door panels?

Thanks !
What Speakers will fit: 6.5" Seperates in the front, using the stock tweeter location on the dash. 6x9's on the rear deck.

What I may have to do to get them to fit: Rear 6x9's nothing, plug and play...Tweets, may take a small bit of *encouragment* and *manipulation* to get it to attach to the stock grill...nothing too crazy required here. Front Doors (6.5") depending on the depth of the speakers you choose, you may need a spacer. My Focals were pretty deep so I used (2) 6.5" trim rings stacked on top of each other per speaker. This gave me about an extra .5" which was enough for the window to clear behind the basket and for a layer of Dynamat Dynaxorb. I got the extra rings from the shop where I bought the speakers...they gave them to me for free.

When they say the stock opening is 2 inches, am I understanding correctly that this can be increased by cutting off the back of the basket? NO! Do not cut off the back of the basket! the back plate of a speaker usually contains a "pole piece" that keeps the voice coil and magnet properly aligned...modification to this will MOST LIKELY damage the speaker...get some spacers instead (see above) you will be MUCH happier! In the door panels, even though the opening is 2" there is a lot of room between the sheet metal door panel and the back of the door trim panel, plenty enough for some spacers.

Removing door panels: One screw behind your door lever, one in the little pocket in the arm rest, one in the upper corner closest to the a-pilliar (I think) Remove all 3 of those, gently pull to release clastic clips from the bottom and sides of the door. Lift door trim panel up slightly. Use a small flathead screw driver to disconnect the lock lever, and carefuly disconect the electrical harness. All done! Install in reverse.

If you are planning on doing any type of major mods/ upgrades to your car, invest in a Haynes Manual...$15 at your local auto supply shop...It will pay for it self very quickly!

Hope that helps!
