I've read that there are key combinations you can do as the phone is starting up that will take you to a setup screen - similar to what you can do on a PC. I guess there are a ton of different things you can change within there. Seems like cool stuff, I just haven't had time to tinker yet.
I don't know if that's the type of modding you were talking about.
