It certainly has a lot to do with it.

You can also contribute some of the lower mileage tanks to spending long amounts of time idling in traffic and stop and go traffic. I would hit well over 300 miles per tank and almost 27 MPG if I didn't have to commute in rush hour traffic both ways.
