The 914-6 had a proper flat six like Porsches of the day should. But then Porsche cheaped it out and switched to a flat-4.

The 914 started out with the 4, then moved up to the 6. The Type IV motor was develped for the transporter, then they figured out it would be a nice motor for other uses. It is more of a rich man's VW than a poor man's Porsche. I like the light, mid-engine thing. It is tough to argue with a car that is around 2000 lbs and has all its weight in the middle towards the ground, it is just going to handle well. That is why a Beck is in my future.
