These reports only give a slice of the real story. They are only counting "number of problems". A 100 person servey is hardly scientific, just a glimpse. While clearly Toyota and Honda come out in JD Powers on top (as expected), these surveys also don't total up the COST of the problems (shows severity). For instance, BMW comes out on top, but my mother's BMW needed a new transmission before 40k miles. Gee, that's just one problem. But one BIG problem.

So one new tranny in a bimmer needed counts the same as say a faulty window mechanism on a Honda.
