Basically all you're doing is reducing the psi in backpressure. Stock pipes usually generate about 12-15 psi whereas an aftermarket system can reduce it to about 6-8 psi. Just to give you a better idea, rally cars using test pipes (straight back, no cat or muffler) generate about 1 psi.
