I'm more than familiar with the reliability of DSMs because I own a '95 GSX. I don't find any DSMs difficult to work on except Galant VR-4's... but those are actually not DSMs, those are JDMs. It's okay to have a turbo DSM as a daily driver as long as you have 2 of them. I'm self-employed so I can't be fired for having car trouble.
I know about the '90's. Bad ECU's, slightly different tranny, god forbid it's AWD (this one's not) with the 23-spline transfer case. '90's were just a little too early of an OBD-I model. If I blow a tranny, any 4g63 transmission will bolt right up.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a 92.5-94 model because of the 7-bolt blocks. If I could have it my way, I'd be getting a mid-early production '92 AWD with a 6-bolt block and 4-bolt rear... but beggars can't be choosers... This thing might cost me next to nothing. It's an impounded car... and I have a friend that owes me a favor sort of thing. :dunno:
Like I said earlier, I'm trying to decide which car I'd sell. I looked at the Laser and it runs & is in really good shape. Good tires, exhaust, turbo, 100% stock. Just needs a driver's side door handle. Everything else is clean and present. All of its power options work. ... but it's got the weirdest thing I've ever seen... 16" steelies with hubcaps. I don't recall ever seeing a 16" steel wheel anywhere. Why? Cheap wheels with expensive tires?
