I saw it at an UltraScreen theater. Kinda like an Imax. That was definitely a plus with all the effects shots and action scenes. Also there was one shot where they walk into the church which on the huge screen really captured the sense of being in a big tall church and that was kind of cool. Some interesting camera angles but after a while the compositions somewhat lost their sense of being unique. On a technical level though it was pretty solid.

Keanu was sort of miscast, but I also think he sorta worked for the part in a way. His character needed to be more pissed off and cynical though. The wisecracks only get the movie so far. Some critics have compared it to Hellboy, and yeah they're both movies based on comic books about demons and whatnot, but they're totally different styles. Hellboy was very much more about the humor, and while Constantine has some wisecracks in it they are more strategic. I'd say the scene when Keanu's talking with the guy in the white suit (don't wanna cause any spoilers) is where I think the cynicism shone through best. There needed to be more of that throughout the movie though. Some of the time he's just too earnest in going about his work of fighting demons when he needed to be complaining more. I think the writing tried a bit too hard for straight laughs when they should have been laughs because what the characters are bitching about is just absurd, and those laughs should have been a bit more infrequent. It tries to have a dry sense of humor, and gives you the sense that's what the intent was, but it's trying a bit too hard and doesn't end up with quite the dry wit that would work best.

I'd say overall it was a pretty good flick. And I'm guessin it's gonna do huge box office numbers.
