It's a *little* easier than free weights (so you just add more weight), and if you don't have exactly perfect form you will notice that variable resistance crap that you get out of a resistance-type machine. You know, where it starts off easy and gets harder? That sucks.

But, if you do the excersizes as shown in the book and with the correct form, it's just as hard and even requires stabilization -- not as much as free weights, but much more than a machine.
