Agree Jay-z has never really impressed me much for content even though he has several songs I have liked.
I do consider Nas hip hop though definitley closer to rap than say Aesop, Common, or Mos Def are.
You really should give a listen to the older albums, although Speakerboxx was still an amazing album and well worth listening to because of th variety of styles on it.
