well, i wanted one since they first came out - but had just graduated college in '99 and A) had no $$$ and B) knew that insurance was a killer for a 22 year old male.

got a '99 miata instead - enjoyed it until it got t-boned.
got a '00 mustang gt. it was pretty fun to drive but was sooo cheaply made
got a '02 rsx-s - still wasn't an S2k but was closer. became addicted to VTEC and the quality of the honda / acura build.
got a '04 S2000 after passing them on the road one too many times and decided that it was worth it!!!

been smiling ever since!!!
