VTEC or Non-VTEC Turbo ?
Specifically, as an example, lets use the F22 engines from the 5th gen. The B1 (VTEC) and the B2 (Non-VTEC).
I've heard mixed accounts on which engine would perform better when turbocharged. keeping in mind that it goes without saying that both would notice a power increase of some variety. Some people say that the variable timing & valves from the VTEC engine would probably cause the forced induction of a turbocharger to work at a less efficient level than the basic Non-VTEC engine.
Also, it has been suggested that a VTEC engine, because of said valves and timing, wouldn't cope as well under the pressure of a turbo, and as a result, you run a far greater risk of engine failure, for one reason or another. But if everything is done properly, wouldn't both engines be just as liable to fail?
Would the final power output be equal for both engines, or would the power increase be equal?
let's speak from experience if possible.
