We have no idea what you are dealing with. Are you referring to a BASE 5 speed, SS or SH model 5th gen? Anyway, keep in mind that the mileage on the car is important, mainly if it is over 60K. If the seller has the service records for the car (like I do for mine-FOR SALE) then that will help determine what condition it is in from a maintenance standpoint. No info, be very careful even if you can get HondaCare or another warranty program. Preludes are really well built and if properly cared for will give you a lot more miles than some other car brands-it is a Honda!
If the car is an SH or a Base 5-speed you can test the clutch by simply starting it and very gently releasing the clutch while in 3rd gear-the engine should immediately die. If not there is an issue that needs checking. If the car is modified under the hood-that is a clue to the condition of the engine too. IF the car is an AutoSS-check when the tranny fluid was reverse flushed-this should be done every 45K or sooner for the full service and want it to last-we did ours at 33K. Make sure you know what kind of oil is in the engine and if synthetic when the switch was done. Even better, get a professional inspection of the car before putting any $$$ down.
