That's not exactly true. I have directional tires. and the best way to rotate tires is in the X shape. You just can't do it yourself, unless you happen to own a tire shop. The tires have to face the same way, meaning that the tires have to be taken off the rim and turned around before you can switch them to the opposite side to make the X shape. If you are rotating the tires, it's probably smart to get the wheels balanced anyways also. A tire shop would charge maybe around 50 bucks to do all that work.
