Perhaps I should've used the word splinter. But it is not like fiber glass, which will bend, then tear. Properly laid up carbon fiber does not have much that much give, especially with a honeycomb core underneath, and breaks away with jagged edges. I've been to the hospital for stitches from the edges before.
