With regards to the pictures in this thread - you can see on the Accord hood where it started to tear. If the impact had been a bit harder, the hood would have separated into two pieces with a bunch of little spears of carbon fiber at the point of separation.

The Civic looks like the impact was either not hard or sudden enough to cause shattering, or the hood might not be carbon fiber. I think it is based on the "torn" look on the left side, where the hood has folded.
I agree. I've used CF products for years (R/C racing chassis, and they do splinter on hard impacts, but not 'shatter like a vase'.

Note that Andy's hood (Civic) is a FI and it is real CF.
