vtec wont engage when car is cold, but as u all know its an extremely bad idea to race yur car when the engine is cold, so just dont even bother till its warm, its safer in the long run....but throttle position i found doesnt matter, in third gear ill let the motor climb real slow with little gas and sure enough vtec will engage....as long as motor temp is warm and oil pressure is high enough VTEC will engage
