I get that alot. In the military forgetting something can be a huge problem, so I go by a mental checklist, and I always get my self ready in the evening before.
After a long deployment of always having a weapon and really expensive gear to be responsible for, you see people freaking out for a few short seconds sayings things like "where's my weapon?" or night vision or GPS or what ever. It took me a week to figure out that I didn't need my pistol with me at all times after I got back from Iraq.
