Finding Coolant Leaks...any tried the blacklight dye?
After installing my JRSC, after about a week and half i noticed my coolant level in the overflow tank was empty so i refilled it. Then every other day i check and it gets lower and lower.
So this means i must have a coolant leak somewhere in my engine compartment, either from a coolant line with a small hole, or maybe just a clamp that isnt tightening down enough.
Well since its so hard to get access to the coolant lines comin outta the back of the engine since they are all wedged right behind the blower, its hard to get to them to put in a new clamp on every single one, i had heard about people using a special black light reactive dye and they run it thru their coolant system for a day or so, and then take the car in a dark garage and shine a black light and it will show where the leak is.
Then i can pinpoint exactly what i have to fix.
I probably will just have to go and get a clamp that screws tighten than one of those springy ones that were used on the stock coolant lines.
Any of you guys ever done this with the dye, and if so, where can i purchase some, how much is it, and will any blacklight bulb work, such as a cheap one from a party store that fits in a regular lightbulb socket, or does it have to be one of the florescent neon tubes?
Any tips towards tryin to find the leak.
I've lookd and done as much visual inspection as i can, but coolant dries off the block right away, so its not like i can see where its coming out, and also, it doesnt drip down after the car is turned off, i think its only when im at higher revs and there's more pressure in the system.
