actually, according to the service manual for a D16Z6(per 92-95 service manual, under the standards and service limits section, page 3-4 in helms) the oil capacity is:

4.0 (4.2, 3.5) for engine overhaul
3.3 (3.5, 2.9) for oil change, including filter

this should solve any arguments, but Shmoo was correct in saying after an engine rebuild, any engine requires extra oil. this is because oil galleys and oil passages contain oil(especially the ones in the crank) so during a cold start there is oil there. that is why it is necessary to put engine lube on all bearings when assembling a new/rebuilt engine because there is no oil during initial start up in the necessary places.
