I'm with this man. Listen when you turn the key to on and listen for the fuel pump to energize, or listen for the fuel rail to pressurize. I'd be leaning towards a wiring/fuel filter problem since it doesn't happen all the time. Possibly a loose wire somewhere that isn't making a connection everytime you try to start it, or the fuel filter is clogged a bit.
